FAQ

Here are a few Frequently Asked Questions we get at CHER. Hopefully you will find this information helpful.

Do you have a storefront?

Yes! We have one store in Calgary, AB and we welcome you to come visit us if you’re in the area. Our address is:

108 1289 Highfield Cres SE

Calgary, AB T2G 5M2

Phone (403)-243-4443

Fax (403) 243-9727

Can I pay for my order with a PO?

Yes! We have agreements with many school boards in Canada that allow you to use your PO directly with CHER. Because each board has its own procedure the process is different for each one. If you have any questions about how a PO works with your particular board, just give us a call and we’ll be happy to explain it to you. You can also use your PO when you shop online; just add the PO number and your school board’s name in the “comment” section as you check out.

How much is shipping?

We do our best to keep shipping costs as low as possible. They are based on the total amount of your order and the current rates are:

Orders less than $175             $14.00

Orders $175 – $350                 8%

Orders $351 – $500                 6%

Orders over $500                    4%

If you live in the Calgary area and would like to Pick Up your order, there is a handling fee of 5%. Of course, if you come into the store and “shop” there is no charge for that!

How long will my package take to arrive?

Once your order has been shipped via Canada Post, it usually takes about a week to arrive. If you have backorders and you’ve chosen to have your order shipped “complete” we will hold your order until those items arrive. This can take any number of weeks depending on many factors such as busy season, publisher ship times, etc. If you have questions about your specific order, please call our friendly staff and we will give you an ETA based on the information we have.

What is your return policy?

We want you to be satisfied with your purchase. If an item is not exactly what you were expecting, please phone for a return authorization number and shipping instructions within two weeks of receiving it. Returns not accompanied with a return authorization number may be refused, and returned to you at your expense. Requests for a return past two weeks may be denied, but if accepted, will be subject to a restocking fee with the balance available only as a Credit On Account. Items must be received by us in brand new, resalable condition. Please note: some items may not be returnable – e.g. software, special orders, CDs & DVDs, novels, etc. Please inquire when placing your order. Shipping and handling is not refundable.
Our standard procedure is to credit your account with us for qualifying returns. If you require a refund a 2% processing fee may be deducted.

What if I want an item that you don’t currently have in stock?

Go ahead and place this item on your order. It will be backordered with us until it arrives and we will ship it to you automatically. You can choose to have your order “split” in which case we will send your in-stock items to you right away and then a second shipment when your backordered items arrive. There are separate shipping costs for this service but it can be nice to get your in-stock items sooner rather than later. Your other option is to have your order shipped “complete” in which case we will hold all items until the backorders arrive and ship the entire order at once.

What if I want an item that is not on your website or in the catalogue?

We can usually bring in special order items for you. Because these are being brought in specifically for you, there are no returns, cancellations, or refunds and it can take several weeks before they arrive. The more information you can give us on your special order items, the better. Things like title, author, publisher, and ISBN numbers are very helpful to make sure we order exactly what you are looking for.

I’m just starting homeschooling. Which program will I need to teach my kid(s)?

Congratulations on your decision to homeschool! This is an exciting time and it can feel a little overwhelming to decide which program or curriculum to choose for your children. One of the best places to start is with our Recommended Resources shelf. Here you will find the different philosophies of home education and many “how to” books. Once you have decided what you want your homeschooling to accomplish, you will have a better idea which programs fit into your goals. Another good resource is your “facilitator” or “educational assistant” as well as experienced homeschool parents and our homeschool experts at the store.  This could be a whole blog topic on its own so we will leave it at that for now.

Is this particular book / program aligned with my provincial outcomes?

Not all homeschoolers are aligned with provincial outcomes and we do not carry the same curriculum as the provincial schools. We are pleased to cater to the homeschool family and therefore carry books and curriculum that may be difficult to find elsewhere. If you want an aligned program you need to talk to your facilitator for their recommendations.
How does a homeschooled student graduate?

Laura has written an article on our blog titled “How to Graduate as a Homeschooled Student”. Feel free to read through her article and if you have further questions, it’s a good idea to contact your facilitator or school board.

If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to give us a call or send us an email. We look forward to hearing from you!
